hospital infection control

Hospital waste management and clean environment is very important for public health and hospital worker health. Step for waste management 1.SEGREGATION 2.COLLECTION AND STORAGE 3.TRANSPOSATION 4.TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL Segregation segregation waste divided into two types one for infectious and non infectious waste at source of generation in the hospital. Do this infectiou watse sharps needles blades broken glass which are to be disposed in white or blue punctured proof container . NON SHARPS Infected plastics syringes dressing gloves masks blood bags urine bags are to be disposed in RED plastic bin or bags. ANATOMICAL WASTE placenta body parts to be disposed in YELLOW plastic aims or bags . NON infectious waste packaging material cartons fruit and vegetable peels Syringe and needle wrappers medicine covers to be disposed in GREEN OR BLACK plastic bin or bags. never mix infectious and Non infectious waste either at source of generation during waste collection waste storage waste transposation or during final disposal of waste. HOW TO COLLECTION AND STORAGE 1.always collect the waste in covered bin. 2.fill the bin upto 3/4th level. 3.clean the bin regularly with soap and water or disinfect the bin regularly. DO NOT THIS 1.NEVER over fill the bin . 2.NEVER mix infectious and non infectious waste in the same bin . 3.never store waste beyond 48 hours TRANSPORTATION always carry the waste in closed. Use dedicated waste collection bin barrow for transporting waste. Transport waste through cc pre defined route within the health care facillity . NEVER DO NOT THIS DURING TRANSPORTATION never transport the waste in open containers or bags it may spill and lead to spread of infection. Never transport waste through crowed areas. TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL always remeber to disinfect and multilate the waste before its final disposal. Remeber the following while treating the waste streams Anatomical waste to be deep buried or incinerated. Syringes to be cut and chemically disinfected with 1% bleaching powder solution at source of generation before final disposal into sharp pit. Infected plastic to be chemically disinfected or autoclaved Shredded and recycled and sent for final disposal into municipal dumps. General waste without any treatment to be sent to municipal dumps for final. Caution never throw infectious waste into general waste without any pre treatment and mutilation.
